Operation Sindoor: Indian Navy Was on High Alert, Karachi Considered as Target, Says Vice Admiral AN Pramod

After 28 civilians, primarily Hindu tourists, were killed in the devastating Pahalgam attack on April 22, 2025, India launched Operation Sindoor a strong military response. The goal of this operation, which put the Indian Navy on high alert, was to destroy terror infrastructure with strategic ramifications that reached as far as Pakistan’s port city of Karachi.

An Informed Response to Fear:

Since the Pahalgam massacre which was ascribed to militants purportedly supported by Pakistan, cross-border terrorism has increased dramatically. On May 7 2025, India retaliated by launching Operation Sindoor, which targeted terrorist camps operated by organizations such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed in areas controlled by Pakistan. The precision strike operation made use of cutting-edge weapons like Rafale jets equipped with SCALP missiles and BrahMos cruise missiles. Indian forces eliminated threats without launching a full-scale conflict by attacking nine targets in twenty-three minutes.

Navy’s Strategic Posture:

Vice Admiral A. N. According to Pramod, Director General of Naval Operations, the Indian Navy was on high alert during Operation Sindoor because Karachi was considered a possible target. By drawing comparisons to the successful 1971 Operation Trident, which severely damaged Karachi’s naval capabilities, the Navy readied itself for potential offensive maneuvers. The Navy’s readiness demonstrated India’s all-encompassing approach to threat countering, even though the main emphasis remained on aerial and missile strikes.

Retaliation and Escalation:

In response, Pakistan launched drone and missile attacks on several Indian cities including New Delhi on May 10 as part of Operation Bunyan al-Marsus. This demonstrated how contemporary conflicts are changing, as it was the first time drone warfare had taken place between two nuclear-armed countries. India’s defenses, particularly the S-400 missile shield, were instrumental in reducing damage and casualties by intercepting incoming threats.

Implications Worldwide and Requests for Moderation:

Global concern was raised by the quick escalation between India and Pakistan. Both countries were urged by international leaders and institutions such as the UN to use moderation and communicate to stop the stability of the region from further declining. Along with airspace closures and flight cancellations, the conflict also caused disruptions to civilian life by postponing important athletic events like the Pakistan Super League and Indian Premier League.

Conclusion:

India’s strong anti-terrorist posture and dedication to preserving national security are best demonstrated by Operation Sindoor. The strategic considerations and increased alertness of the Indian Navy demonstrate a comprehensive defense posture. To maintain a sustainable peace in the area, diplomatic engagement and de-escalation are still crucial as tensions simmer.
